Simplify Allergen Control with Neogen® Allergen Solutions

Practical allergen testing tools for food, water, and surfaces

Managing allergen risk is a major obligation for food producers. In Australia and New Zealand, around 90% of food allergy reactions come from a defined group of allergens that must be declared under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.

These include:
Soy, Milk, Egg, Wheat, Fish, Crustacea, Molluscs, Sesame, Lupin, Peanuts, and Tree Nuts (almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pine nut, pistachio, walnut).

Also regulated under the Code:
  • Gluten from wheat, rye, barley, oats, or their hybrid strains
  • Added sulphites at 10 mg/kg or higher
Both are known to cause serious reactions in sensitive individuals, including those with coeliac disease or non-allergic hypersensitivity.

Trace to Truth in Allergen Control

Today’s food industry expects traceability at every step. You cannot manage risk without being able to show where allergens have been checked, verified and controlled. Testing gives you a direct line from sample to result, helping you confirm cleaning, support label claims and respond quickly if cross-contact occurs.

Neogen provides fast, fit-for-purpose testing solutions designed to verify allergen control at every production stage. Our portfolio includes quantitative ELISAs, qualitative lateral flow devices (LFDs), and surface protein swabs to help detect low allergen levels across raw materials, processing areas, and finished products.

Our food allergen tests are used across food production, laboratories, and regulatory settings to detect and measure allergens accurately and efficiently.

Choose the Right Test for Your Facility

Lateral Flow Qualitative Allergen Assays

Reveal® Allergen Test Kits & Allergen Protein Rapid Test Kits.

Perfect for on-site testing. Qualitative results in minutes.

Neogen’s lateral flow tests are simple, easy-to-use lateral flow tests, used to screen for the presence of low levels of allergens on environmental swabs, clean-in-place rinses and validated food matrices.

The Reveal® 3-D format uses three indicators. A test line confirming presence, an overload line preventing false negatives, and a control line confirming the test worked. Results are visible within minutes.

ELISA-Based Quantitative Allergen Testing Assays

Veratox® Allergen ELISA Test Kits, Veratox® VIP ELISA Test Kits & Allergen Protein ELISA Test Kits - Quantitative results within 30 minutes post-extraction.

Neogen's ELISA Kits provide quantitative data for multiple analytes including gluten, peanut, soy, and egg.

Neogen’s Veratox microwell assays are perfect for those with laboratories, from food manufacturers to commercial and government laboratories, and provide accurate, quantitative results within 30 minutes following extraction.

Surface Protein Testing

Neogen® Clean-Trace® ALLTEC60 Surface Protein (Allergen) Test Swab.
Surface protein test for cleaning verification, sensitive to 3 µg.

Control allergen cross-contamination in your processing facility with our fast, simple solution for monitoring the presence of total proteins on surfaces to verify the effectiveness of cleaning. Quick detection and confirmation allows immediate corrective action to take place.

A visual reading of a color change indicates the level of cleanliness by detecting as little as 3µg of allergen on surfaces and in solution.

Strengthen Your Allergen Control Plan

Routine allergen testing supports compliance and reduces the risk of food cross-contact. A structured plan usually includes raw materials testing, pre-batch formulation checks, cleaning validation of equipment and CIP rinses and finished product testing.
